San Rafael is gearing up to launch a month-long scavenger hunt and word scramble game at its downtown businesses to celebrate Lunar New Year in February.

Starting Feb.1, members of the public will be able to participate in the “Horse Hunt and Word Scramble Challenge” with prizes for the winners.

Participants will search for letters hidden in horse paintings adorned on the windows of 15 downtown businesses. Once all the letters of each painting are collected, participants will then rearrange the letters to reveal a word or phrase related to the theme of Lunar New Year.

Participants must pick up a map from Belly Deli where they will write down the letters discovered in the paintings of each business

Completed word scramble maps can be dropped off at Belly Deli for a special treat. Six winners will each receive a $50 gift card. Maps can also be submitted to info@srbid.org.

Paintings will be featured in the windows of the following businesses — Hot Italian, New Delhi Indian Cuisine, Double Rainbow @ Autistry Studios, Metta Yoga, Humbowl, Yet Wah Restaurant, The Shop, Burns Florist, Bodywise Massage, Tamal Vista Family Dentistry, Cain’s Tire, Marin Cake Studio, Do Art, Red Dragon Yoga, and Belly Deli.

The challenge is being organized by the San Rafael Business Improvement District, a nonprofit that aims to revitalize San Rafael’s downtown.

The game will run through Feb. 28, with winners announced in early March.
