The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office was awarded a $790,000 state grant to fund prosecutions of impaired drivers.
Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine Pacioni said the money would pay for a special team of prosecutors dedicated to cases involving alcohol and drug impairment.
“We are grateful for this grant, which will allow us to focus specifically on holding individuals accountable for impaired driving and making the roads in our community safer for everyone,” Pacioni said in a statement.
The grant was awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety and will pay for the team through September.
The DUI prosecution team filed nearly 2,200 DUI cases in 2024, including 149 DUI drug cases and 33 DUI combined alcohol and drug cases, according to Pacioni.
