Authorities confirmed Monday that a body found over the weekend on a Santa Cruz County beach belonged to Erica Fox, a swimmer who disappeared last week after a possible shark attack.

Fox’s body was recovered Saturday from the ocean near Davenport, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office said.

Fox, 55, had gone missing Dec. 21 off Lovers Point in Pacific Grove, on the south side of the bay. The straight-line distance from Lovers Point to Davenport is about 30 miles.

“The Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to Erica’s family and friends during this tragic time,” the sheriff’s office said Monday in a news release.
