Berkeley residents with Thursday or Friday trash, recycling, and compost service should expect delayed pickups following New Year’s Day, city officials said.
Collections scheduled for Jan. 1 and 2, will be pushed back one day. Customers with regular Thursday service should place bins curbside by 7 a.m. Friday, while those with Friday service should set bins out by 7 a.m. Saturday.
Pickups may occur later than usual, the city said.
Residents are also encouraged to properly dispose of holiday trees. Trees should be cut up and placed inside green compost carts with lids closed, or dropped off whole at the Berkeley Transfer Station. Decorations, lights, tinsel, bags, and stands must be removed.
Whole trees left on curbs will not be collected, as they can damage trucks, the city said. Flocked trees are not compostable and should be cut up and placed in gray refuse carts.
The Berkeley Transfer Station will accept compostable trees for free during January. Regular fees resume Feb. 1.
City officials urged residents to keep discarded trees off streets and sidewalks to help keep Berkeley clean.
