The Morgan Hill Police Department has increased patrols as part of a nationwide effort to curb impaired driving during the holiday season.
The department is participating in the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which runs through New Year’s Day. During that time, additional officers will be on the lookout for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said.

Police officials cited federal data showing that 1,038 people were killed nationwide in alcohol-impaired driving crashes in December 2023 alone.
We want to make sure everyone gets home safely so that they can celebrate the holiday season with their families and loved ones,” Chief Shane Palsgrove said. “Not only is driving impaired illegal, but it is also dangerous and never acceptable.”
The department urged residents to plan by designating a sober driver, use public transportation, taxis or rideshare services. Police also warned that impairment can result from prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and cannabis, not just alcohol.
Anyone who sees a suspected impaired driver is encouraged to call 911.
