The fifth annual Latke Throwdown will take place Thursday at the Bardessono Hotel and Spa in Yountville.

The competition celebrates the latke, an Ashkenazi Jewish food comprising crispy, shallow-fried potato pancakes served during Hanukkah.

Napa Valley chefs will have 30 minutes to create the ultimate latke, organizers said. A live audience will cheer the chefs on. Guests will also be able to taste of each latke after the competition.

A panel of local judges will try each latke for creativity, presentation and taste.

Last year’s winner was chef Itamar Abramovitch of Blossom Catering, who created a tower of latkes with crème fraîche and topped with salmon roe.

Tickets start at $20, with all proceeds benefiting ParentsCAN, a Napa-based nonprofit that provides services and resources to families of children with special needs. More information is available on their website.
