The National Weather Service is advising Bay Area residents to expect hazardous surf along the coast through Friday, with breaking waves of 12 to 16 feet and strong rip currents along northwest- and west-facing beaches from Sonoma County to Monterey Bay.
A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect for the North Bay, San Francisco, the Peninsula, Santa Cruz County, and Monterey counties. Forecasters say the large shore break and rip currents will persist Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, making conditions hazardous for swimmers and beachgoers.
Tule fog and low stratus clouds also continue to blanket the North Bay and interior East Bay, similar to conditions on Tuesday. The fog is tied to stagnant air trapped under strong, unmoving high pressure, which has kept nights long, calm and cool, the weather service says.
Most areas will stay dry into the weekend, but forecasters note that light rain is possible across the region early next week.
