Construction is set to begin this month on interim repairs at the southern end of the Santa Cruz Wharf, city officials announced.
Mobilization is expected to start in mid-November, with work scheduled for completion by February 2026, depending on weather, the city said.
The project addresses damage caused by last winter’s heavy wave activity.
Parks and Recreation Director Tony Elliot on Thursday said the repairs are intended to protect a key community gathering space.
“The Wharf is where locals and visitors come together,” he said. “This work is about caring for that experience and making sure future generations can enjoy it.”
City officials said all Wharf businesses will remain open during construction, and public access to dining, shops and recreation will continue. Work was scheduled for the off-season to reduce impacts on businesses, visitors and protected bird species.
Once finished, the project will restore full access to the end of the Wharf and its views of Monterey Bay.
