The Morgan Hill Police Department was awarded a $90,000 state grant to fund traffic safety enforcement and education programs, the police department said.

The money will be dedicated to programs including DUI checkpoints and patrols, hands-free driving enforcement operations, and increased enforcement targeting top traffic violations.

The grant will also fund community presentations on pressing traffic safety issues and recertification training for officers to detect impaired drivers, according to the police department.

“We are grateful to receive this grant, which will strengthen our traffic enforcement efforts and improve road safety,” Morgan Hill Police Chief Shane Palsgrove said. “Through a combination of education and enforcement efforts, our goal is to reduce dangerous driving behaviors, prevent crashes, and make our roads safer for everyone.”

The grant will fund the programs through September 2026. The state grant program is funded by a federal grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
