The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office was awarded a $75,000 grant to fund alcohol enforcement operations, authorities said.

The money was awarded by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) as part of the department’s Alcoholic Policing Partnership, the sheriff’s office said Friday.

The program dates back to 1995 and partners with local law enforcement agencies to reduce alcohol-related harm and enforce laws around its purchase and use, especially selling to minors. It also creates partnerships in enforcement operations between ABC agents and local law enforcement seeking to reduce excessive intoxication, illegal solicitations alcohol, and drug enforcement.

“This initiative is essential to improving youth safety and giving law enforcement the tools needed to confront and reduce criminal activity in known problem locations across Monterey County,” said Sheriff Tina Nieto.
