A prescribed burn will take place southeast of Laytonville, in unincorporated Mendocino County, starting Wednesday, Cal Fire said.

According to the fire agency, crews will burn approximately 450 acres of chaparral and vegetation within oak woodlands and mixed conifer habitats. The result will be a mosaic of burned vegetation and islands of unburned habitat.

The burn will be reliant on weather conditions. It will end no later than Oct. 12, the fire agency said.

Smoke and aircraft may be visible from U.S. Highway 101.

The burn is part of a series of prescribed burns at Shamrock Ranch implemented by the agency as part of the state’s plan to reduce fuels in areas most at-risk of wildfires.
