The Greenfield Branch Library in Monterey County is closing for a week so crews can begin work on a new roof for the building, county officials announced Friday.

The library branch at 315 El Camino Real will close Monday until Sept. 15, with future full or partial closure dates likely through October, according to the county.

The traditional tile roof is having repairs done underneath it to stop leaks, and county officials said the existing tiles will be reused.

During the closure, no items can be returned to the branch and the phone line will be forwarded to the Soledad branch. People who want to put an item on hold can have the request routed to another branch, a Bookmobile stop, or to the county’s free Library By Mail service.

People can visit www.eMCFL.org for the schedule for the Bookmobile, which will make visits to Hicks Park adjacent to the Greenfield branch during the closure. County officials said wireless internet will remain active around the branch from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the closure days.

Other Monterey County library branches that will see repairs in the near future include Big Sur, Pajaro and San Lucas. The Gonzales branch will also close on the week of Thanksgiving and then is reopening in early 2026 at a new location in the Dennis & Janice Caprara Community Center, according to the county.

New branches in Bradley and East Garrison are also expected to start construction in 2026.
