The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office is calling on local high school students to use their creativity to raise awareness about animal cruelty — and offering cash prizes for the best work.
The contest invites students to submit original art focused on animal neglect and how to report it. Submissions can include painting, drawing, photography, graphic design and other mediums.
“Neglecting an animal is not just abuse — it’s a crime. I want high school students to join me and help the voiceless be heard,” District Attorney Jeff Rosen said in a statement.
The first-place winner will receive $1,500, the second-place winner $1,000, and the third-place winner $500. The top entry will also be featured on the District Attorney’s website and in a campaign against animal abuse.
All students who enter but do not place will receive a Starbucks gift card.
Entries are due by Jan. 9 of next year. Winners will be announced Jan. 30 on the District Attorney’s website and Facebook page, with an awards ceremony scheduled at a later date.
The prize money comes from the District Attorney’s Asset Forfeiture funds.
