Gov. Gavin Newsom has appointed a San Jose student leader to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors.
According to the governor’s office, Maria Blaze has been a student trustee at the Foothill-De Anza Community College District and legislative affairs director for Region IV of the Student Senate of California Community Colleges. She is also youth policy director at SIREN (Services, Immigrant Rights, and Education Network) and a civic engagement Intern at the Vietnamese American Roundtable.
This position does not require Senate confirmation. Blaze, a Democrat, will receive $100 per diem, according to the governor’s office.
