Three elderly patients at a Pacific Grove nursing home were allegedly sexually assaulted by a caregiver, according to California Attorney General Rob Bonta.

Paul Nkoy Lumbi, Jr., a certified nursing assistant, is charged in Monterey County Superior Court with multiple felony counts, including forcible lewd acts on a dependent adult, forcible rape, and rape of a person incapable of giving consent.

In a statement Thursday, Bonta said the assaults happened while Lumbi was working at Forest Hill Manor.

“Caregivers have a responsibility to treat those in their care with compassion and dignity,” Bonta said. “Sexual assault is always unacceptable and assaulting an individual during one of the most vulnerable and difficult periods of their life reaches a new low.”

Before his employment at Forest Hill Manor, Lumbi reportedly worked at other facilities in Monterey County and is currently employed by Cypress Ridge Care Center.

Officials urged anyone with information about possible sexual misconduct by Lumbi to contact the California Department of Justice’s Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse at oag.ca.gov/dmfea/reporting. The division investigates and prosecutes abuse and neglect of elderly and dependent adults and fraud involving the Medi-Cal program.
