A MAN SHOT AND KILLED outside his home in Oakland’s Longfellow neighborhood following a Fourth of July party has been identified by his family as Tim Conover.
Officers were sent to the 800 block of 41st Street at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday to investigate a 911 call about the shooting.
When they arrived, officers found Conover suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and he was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
While Oakland police didn’t release the victim’s name, citing the need to first notify his next of kin, a GoFundMe crowdfunding page set up by his family identified the man as Conover, a father of two young children.
According to the GoFundMe organizers, including his fiance’s aunt Rebecca Morgan, Conover was shot several times while saying goodbye to guests outside his home after a Fourth of July party.
The suspect was “someone (Conover) had trusted like family,” according to the GoFundMe post.
The GoFundMe page had raised more than $26,485 as of Wednesday morning.

Morgan said Conover’s fiance, Zazzi Cribbs, is grateful for any donated funds, which will be used for much-needed family expenses.
“Tim was the kind of person who would give without hesitation and show up when it mattered most,” according to the GoFundMe post. “Every Friday, he proudly walked his children to school, greeting their classmates with warmth. At school events, he was affectionately known as the ‘Master Griller’ — a title that spoke not just to his cooking skills, but to his joyful spirit and presence.”
