Marin County has combined resources from some retired programs to funnel $1.65 million in funding to a new Community Grants and Investment Program.
The county began taking applications July 1 for one-time grants of $1,000 to $50,000 to support projects that benefit county residents. Any tax-exempt organization or group with fiscal sponsorship is eligible to apply to fund programs, projects or community events that take place in the calendar year 2026.
“Meals on Wheels, Marin Humane, Saint Vincent de Paul Society of Marin, Marin Foster Care Association, those are some of our former awardees,” said Marin County budget director Josh Swedberg. “The board made a recommendation to do a one-year bump. This year it’s going to be $1.65 million, but then next year it will go back down to $1.1 million unless the board approves additional funding at that point.”
Each organization may submit one application, and it can include up to three proposed activities. The Board of Supervisors said in a statement, the new program is a flexible tool for programs that might address county priorities like affordable housing, homelessness, equity, disaster preparedness, carbon emissions reductions and economic vitality.
Grant applications are being accepted through Aug. 31.
