The Cloverdale Lions Club said it was canceling its annual Fourth of July fireworks show following an explosion the day before at a supplier’s fireworks facility in Yolo County.
The explosion on Tuesday at the facility in Esparto sparked a 78-acre fire that has prompted evacuations in the area. At least seven people are missing in the wake of the blast, officials said.
The facility, about 22 miles north of Vacaville, was the designated supplier of professional-grade fireworks for the Cloverdale Lions Club 4th of July Aerial Fireworks Show and other communities around the state.
Cal Fire said in a news release that it’s believed that the site is owned by a pyrotechnic license holder and an investigation is underway.
“We are sending our condolences to the community of Esparto and all impacted by this tragic event, and will do our best to find ways to support them,” the Lions Club said in a statement on Wednesday.
