San Francisco Sheriff’s Office chief of staff Richard Jue has been charged with two misdemeanors for allegedly running into a parked Tesla in March and then filing a false police report, prosecutors said Monday.
Jue allegedly waited two weeks to report the March 4 collision on southbound Diamond Heights Boulevard near Duncan Street. Jue was off-duty and driving a sheriff’s vehicle at the time, according to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.
His first report stated he had been the victim of an unknown hit-and-run in a parking lot. The next day, however, he allegedly made another report, apologizing and saying he had caused the collision and left the scene without leaving a note. The victim’s Tesla was deemed a total loss, prosecutors said.
Jue was arrested Sunday on suspicion of being involved in a hit-and-run collision and providing false information to police.
His bail was set at $7,500 and he was booked into San Francisco County Jail. He posted bail and was released the same day.
He is set to be arraigned at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Hall of Justice.
