Petaluma motorists consider yourself warned: A herd of sheep will be loose on city streets Saturday.

But they will be supervised. Humans will herd sheep from the Petaluma Fairgrounds to Steamer Landing Park, beginning at approximately 10 a.m.

The sheep will travel down East D Street to Steamer Landing.

Police said the event will cause temporary road closures along the route so the sheep can safely arrive at an awaiting festival at Steamer Landing Park.

Detours and closures are expected to be brief. Closures will happen at Payran Street from Fairgrounds Drive to East D Street and along East D Street at the intersections of Vallejo, Edith, Wilson, Erwin, Lakeville, Hopper, and Copeland streets.

Spectators are welcome and will be asked to stay on adjoining sidewalks along the route to leave a clear path for the sheep.

Police ask people to avoid driving in the area, if possible.
