VOTE-BY-MAIL PACKETS went out to registered voters within the San Jose Unified School District to begin early voting for May’s special election, the Registrar of Voters office said.
Vote-by-mail packets have been sent to over 153,000 registered voters in the school district area on Monday.
The May 6 special election is an all-mail ballot election that will decide the fate of Measure A, which if approved would renew a parcel tax of $72 per parcel which is estimated to generate $5 million in funds for the school district annually for eight years. It needs a two-thirds majority to pass.
Since the election is all-mail ballot, there will be no vote centers open for it. However, there are several ways to deliver your ballot.
Everything a voter needs will be mailed to them, the Registrar’s office said, including the official ballot, a postage-paid return envelope and even an “I Voted” sticker.
Ballots can be mailed in or returned in person at the ROV Office at 1555 Berger Drive, Building 2, in San Jose. Ballots sent by mail must be postmarked by Election Day and received no later than May 13 to be counted.
There are also 12 official ballot drop-boxes which will remain open until 8 p.m. on Election Day. To find the nearest one, go to sccvote.org/dropbox.
Those interested in voting who are not yet registered to vote may do so by April 21, the Registrar of Voters said. After that date, anyone unregistered who wants to vote must register in-person and vote on the same day at the ROV office.
