A King City police sergeant died after experiencing a medical emergency while on-duty early Tuesday morning.

King City Police Sgt. Ryan Kenedy passed away unexpectedly at about 12:45 a.m. after the medical emergency, police said.

Kenedy began with the Monterey County-based department in July 2014 as a patrol officer and was promoted to sergeant in January 2020.

A statement by the King City Police Department described Kenedy as “an intelligent and kind person who showed utmost care and humility towards those he worked with and served” and “was a loving and devoted husband and son.”

Monterey County is lowering flags at county facilities to half-staff until Kenedy is laid to rest, county officials said Wednesday.
