Vallejo police have announced a partnership with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives to reduce gun violence in the city.

“We are working side-by-side with our community members and our law enforcement partners using evidence-based policing to get guns out of the hands of criminals and ultimately save lives,” Vallejo Police Chief Jason Ta said Thursday in a press release.

The joint operation is part of an ongoing investigation that will be detailed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California in the coming weeks, police said.

The nature of the operation wasn’t disclosed.

“Partnerships are the backbone of law enforcement, and we are honored to work alongside the Vallejo Police Department to combat violent crime,” Special Agent in Charge Jennifer Cicolani of ATF’s San Francisco Field Division said in the press release.
