People living in San Mateo County have a chance to make a difference by becoming a member of the county’s Civil Grand Jury, officials said.
U.S. citizens over 18 years of age living in the county are eligible to serve, though elected public officials are not eligible. The application period is currently open, closing March 31.
The court is looking for a cross-section of the population to serve and all interested people who are eligible are encouraged to apply.
Civil grand juries in California investigate local governments to ensure they are operating efficiently and fairly. They also serve as a watchdog for citizens, receiving and investigating complaints about government officials.
Rachel Holt, Assistant Presiding Judge for the San Mateo County Superior Court, has been appointed as the Civil Grand Jury Advisor. After the completion of an interview process conducted by Judge Holt, jurors will be selected through a random draw.
The Civil Grand Jury application form may be obtained on the court’s website or request it via email.
