Rory McIlroy, one of the best and most famous golfers in the world, won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at one of the best and most famous golf courses in the world.
McIlroy shot 21-under-par for a two-shot victory on a sunny Sunday in Monterey County at the Pebble Beach Golf Links course he described in a post-round interview as a “cathedral” in the game of golf alongside other world-famous courses.
The 80 pro golfers also played on either Thursday or Friday at nearby Spyglass Hill and for those two days were joined by 80 amateurs, but not the celebrities and actors that were common at Pebble Beach before last year. This year’s event had a mix of athletes and corporate executives who did not play on the weekend rounds.
The tournament was in its second year of a new format as a PGA Tour Signature Event that included a limited field and increased prize money. McIlroy, who got the 27th win of his PGA Tour career and recently along with Tiger Woods started the TGL indoor golf simulator league involving other top golfers, took in $3.6 million for this week’s victory.
Shane Lowry finished two shots behind McIlroy while Lucas Glover and Justin Rose tied for third.
Pebble Beach is among the most beautiful but also the most expensive public golf courses in the country, with green fees costing $675 to play the 18 coastside holes. Along with the annual pro-am tournament, it will also host the U.S. Open major in 2027. The full leaderboard and more information about the Pebble Beach Pro-Am can be found at www.attpbgolf.com.
