The San Ramon City Council on Friday will interview four finalists and select a new District 2 councilmember after the seat was left open in November when Mark Armstrong successfully ran for mayor.Â
The council selected Kyle Levy, Richard Adler, Tiffany Uhri Chu and Baljit Sull as finalists from a pool of 16 eligible applicants. During the first round of interviews, Levy was the top choice for all four current councilmembers.
The successful applicant will serve until the Nov. 3, 2026 general election results are certified by the City Council. Â
Candidates will be interviewed individually after having two minutes for an opening statement. Each candidate will be asked 12 questions and will have up to three minutes per question. Candidates will be given two minutes for a closing statement.
Levy serves on the city’s Parks and Community Services Commission, is secretary of the San Ramon Library Foundation and is chairperson of the San Ramon Valley Unified School District Facilities Oversight and Advisory Committee. He previously served on the Library Advisory Committee and was treasurer for the Measure N sales tax campaign.
Adler was a member of the Yes on Measure N committee, 2024 and served as chair of the San Ramon Senior Advisory Committee in 2023. He’s currently the president of the Dougherty Valley San Ramon Rotary Club.
Sull serves as chief vice president of Sull Corp Inc., which owns and operates gas stations and mini marts. Sull has been a San Ramon resident for more than 35 years and graduated from the city’s California High School. He’s been involved with local and Contra Costa County PTAs, has volunteered with the San Ramon Futbol Club for eight years and has served 13 years as a youth sports coach. He also does work for the Family Violence Law Center, which serves Alameda County.
Chu has a master’s degree in education and a law degree. She said in her application that she brings a well-rounded perspective to public service, combining her ability to advocate for others with the skills to make informed, fair, and thoughtful decisions.
The special meeting starts at 5 p.m. and will be held at the council chamber at City Hall at 7000 Bollinger Canyon Road in San Ramon. The meeting can also be seen on the city’s YouTube channel.
