The Novato Police Department has been awarded a $119,000 state grant for traffic safety enforcement, according to officials.
The grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety will support education, DUI checkpoints, officer training programs and various safety enforcement operations to try to reduce serious injuries and deaths on roads. The grant will fund programs through September 2025, according to a news release from the police department.
“We are grateful to receive this grant, which will strengthen our traffic enforcement efforts and improve road safety,” Novato police Sgt. Reza Pourfarhani said.
“By increasing enforcement of traffic laws and focusing on high-risk areas, we aim to reduce dangerous driving behaviors, prevent crashes, and make our roads safer for everyone.”
Enforcement operations funded by the grant include distracted driving operations, red-light running, speeding and other traffic safety violations and community safety presentations, the department said.
