San Francisco’s Proposition C, which would establish an inspector general in the city controller’s office, appeared headed for approval early Wednesday, with 59.53% in favor.
The yes votes had tallied 127,173 in the preliminary totals, ahead of 86,440 no votes. The measure needs only a simple majority to pass.
The measure will create a new position with the authority to investigate complaints of fraud, waste and abuse, and would give them the power to issue subpoenas and execute search warrants.
It was supported by nearly the entire Board of Supervisors.
