Initial results on Election Night showed two incumbents likely to secure the open Pittsburg City Council seats.
As Pittsburg has an at-large council that appoints its mayor, all registered voters this year chose two from among three candidates. With 42.4% of the vote, Juan Antonio Banales pulled ahead of Jelani Killings, who had 37.01%, and Iztaccuauhtli Hector Gonzalez with 20.53%. Twelve voters selected what appears to be write-in candidate Sonja Shephard.
The Contra Costa County Registrar of Voters released early results at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday and updated them at 9:30 p.m. A call to the Registrar confirmed that a final update for the night will be at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Banales ran on a campaign that prioritized economic development, youth development and infrastructure investment.
Killings said he would prioritize improving public facilities and infrastructure, expanding the service area for municipal electric and natural gas provider Pittsburg Power Company, and revitalizing and promoting the redevelopment of industrial zones.
