The Alum Rock Union School District has appointed a new superintendent, German Cerda, to begin at the end of September, according to a press release. His contract will extend through June of 2027. Â
“I am truly humbled to be chosen as the superintendent of Alum Rock USD,” Cerda said. “It is a great privilege to serve this beautiful community, and I look forward to working alongside our dedicated Board Trustees, educators, families, and, most importantly, students to create opportunities for every child to thrive. Together, we will build a brighter future.”
Cerda most recently worked as the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for the Campbell Union High School District. Before that, he spent 22 years working in the Los Angeles Unified School District as an elementary teacher, middle school counselor, principal, and Director of Instruction, among other things.
Alum Rock Union School District Board of Trustees president Linda Chavez is enthusiastic about Cerda’s appointment.
“His extensive background and deep dedication to educational leadership make him the perfect fit for our district,” Chavez said. “We look forward to his leadership and vision as we continue to strive for excellence and create opportunities for all our students.”
Cerda will be taking over for Interim Superintendent, Emmanuel “Manny” Barbara, who has been in the position since July 19.
