Hearings for contested traffic tickets in San Francisco will move from the Hall of Justice on Bryant Street to the Civic Center Courthouse on McAllister Street starting in October, according to San Francisco Superior Court officials.

Starting on Oct. 7, all traffic ticket-related hearings will be held in Department 218 at the Civic Center Courthouse.

Payments and other business through the court’s clerk will still be available at the current location at the Hall of Justice, room 145. Additional clerk services will be made available at the Civic Center Courthouse, room 103, after hearings there begin.

Zoom hearings can also be requested for traffic violations.

The move to free up courtroom space at the Hall of Justice comes about two weeks after 70 misdemeanor cases were dismissed because they had gone beyond their statutory deadline to be heard after the defendants requested a speedy trial.

At the time, Superior Court Presiding Judge Anne-Christine Massullo and San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins clashed over who was to blame for the delays. Jenkins faulted the court for not opening more courtrooms sooner at the Civic Center Courthouse, which had been shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic.
