The gentle Charlie Brown, the dashing Snoopy, the irritating Lucy van Pelt and other characters from longtime Santa Rosa resident Charles Schulz’s beloved Peanuts comic strip will be on display enjoying the beach in an exhibit in Santa Rosa through September.

The exhibit “Cowabunga, Peanuts!” focuses on the rise of beach culture in the 1960s through the adventures of the Peanuts gang. It will be on view at the Charles M. Schulz Museum through Sept. 11. The exhibit includes original Peanuts comic strip art, animation clips, vintage toys and archival photos.

Redolent of a kinder, gentler era, the “Peanuts” comic strip created by the late Schultz had a surge in popularity in the early 1960s and made its way off the page and into animation products and TV specials. Schultz moved to Sonoma County in 1958, according to the museum.
