Voters in the Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District will be asked to decide a proposed tax increase from $49 to $128 per parcel of property.
Mail-in ballots began going out this week to registered voters in Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties, according to the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters’ Office.
School trustees voted in January to put the tax on the May 7 ballot as Measure A. Trustees said teacher compensation lags behind neighboring school districts, making it harder to attract and retain highly qualified teachers.
The current $49 parcel tax, approved in 2011, was renewed by voters in 2016 for eight years.
