Gov. Gavin Newsom has announced the appointment of multiple residents of the greater Bay Area to administrative positions across the state.
Newson on Friday appointed Stockton resident and Democrat Floria Sandoval as deputy secretary for Access at the California Natural Resources Agency. Sandoval will receive just over $170,000 each year in compensation at her newly appointed position. Sandoval has been deputy director of public affairs at the California Department of Parks and Recreation since 2015. She previously served as information officer and education analyst at the California Department of Boating and Waterways for more than a decade.
Newsom appointed San Jose resident and registered Democrat Evelyn Gonzalez Reyes to the California Institute on Law, Neuroscience and Education. Gonzalez Reyes has served as a youth voice coach for Fresh Lifelines for Youth since 2022, and was previously a youth justice consultant and founding member of the Youth Advisory Council from 2015 to 2021. The compensation for her appointment is $500 per diem.
Vacaville resident Andrea Rosales has been appointed to the Commission on Correctional Peace Officer Standards and Training. This positions is not compensated and the appointee is a registered member of the California Correctional Peace Officers Association.
Rosales has been a correctional sergeant at San Quentin State Prison since 2019, after serving as a correctional officer there beginning in 2006. Rosales is not registered with a party preference.
