A retired University of the Pacific professor who taught there for 40 years has died, the school announced this week. 

Charles Kelso, 95, taught at UOP’s McGeorge School of Law and retired in 2017. Kelso became a faculty member in 1978, teaching classes such as constitutional law, the First Amendment, and contracts.

He also wrote four books, eight monographs, and more than 70 law review articles. 

The university said in a statement on Monday that Kelso was once recognized for being the youngest law professor in the nation when he taught at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Indianapolis at the age of 22.

Kelso’s wife served as dean of students at McGeorge School of Law and their two children went on to also become law professors.

One of their children has been a law professor at McGeorge for 38 years while the other is a faculty member at South Texas School of Law Houston, according to the statement.
