David Pucci has been named as the new fire chief of the Central County Fire Department, serving the San Mateo County communities of Burlingame, Hillsborough and Millbrae.

The appointment was announced Friday by Lisa K. Goldman, city manager of Burlingame and chief administrative officer for the Central County Fire Department.

Pucci, who grew up in Pacifica, began his public safety career as a police officer in Mountain View, according to the fire agency. 

He moved to the fire service and was hired as a paramedic by Redwood City Fire Department in 1997. He rose to deputy fire chief in 2016.

Pucci serves on a state emergency management team and has responded to more than 30 disasters and wildfires statewide since 2009. He was designated a Certified Emergency Manager by International Association of Emergency Managers in 2011.

Pucci will be sworn in at a ceremony in May.
