The Lafayette City Council is looking for a new member.
The council announced at its meeting Monday that it will have a vacancy and laid out the process for filling it.

Councilmember Teresa Gerringer on Dec. 15 announced her resignation from the council, effective Jan. 23. Gerringer has served on the council since 2018 after spending 18 years on the Lafayette School District board.
Gerringer also retired from her job as chief of staff for Contra Costa County Supervisor Diane Burgis in December.
“I’m looking forward to a happy, healthy next chapter of life with my family in the Pacific Northwest,” Gerringer said in a statement. “In the meantime, I will continue to fulfill my duties as a Lafayette City Councilmember.”
The city must fill the vacancy by March 23. The council will appoint someone to serve until the next regularly scheduled municipal election in November.
The council will accept applications until 8 a.m. Jan. 25. Applicants must be a Lafayette resident and registered to vote. The council will interview applicants Jan. 29 and Jan. 31 (if necessary).
The application form is available on the city’s website.
