Salinas will bolster safety education for bicyclists and pedestrians with a $115,148 grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety, the police department said.
“These grant funds allow us to teach safe behaviors to elementary school children in our community by providing walking courses and bicycle trainings, as well as distributing free helmets and safety equipment,” Police Chief Roberto Filice said in a statement.
The funds will support a variety of activities including helmet fitting inspections, community bike rides that teach safe riding skills, and events that promote safety equipment such as reflective armbands/leg bands and bicycle headlights/taillights, police said.
