BART is increasing its fare discount for lower-income riders to 50 percent from 20 percent beginning Monday.
The half-price fare is offered through Clipper START, a pilot program that provides single-ride discounts to eligible riders.
Qualifications for users include being a resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, age 19 to 64, and having a household income of no more than 200 percent of the federal poverty level.
The 2024 income limit for a single-person household is $29,160, according to KFF, an independent source of health policy research, formerly known as the Kaiser Family Foundation. For a family of four, the household income limit is $60,000.
Clipper START is accepted by more than 20 regional transit operators including Muni, AC Transit, Caltrain, SamTrans and VTA.
Interested riders can apply on the transit agency’s website for Clipper START.
