Oakland’s Department of Workplace and Employment Standards has ordered Radisson Hotel to pay $404,491 in back wages to 128 employees for violating minimum wage standards, the city said.

An audit found the violations occurred from July 1, 2019, to April 1, 2020, but the city’s action was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the department said.

“Since the Radisson Hotel determination was announced this morning, we’ve already had workers reach out to the city with similar concerns,” Emylene Aspilla, the director of the workplace agency, said Friday afternoon in a press release.

Tony Ng, the general manager of the Radisson Hotel, did not immediately respond to a telephone call seeking comment after regular business hours.

In a letter to Radisson, the workplace agency said Oakland’s Municipal Code requires hotel employees with health benefits be paid $15 an hour. Employees without such benefits are due $20.

The city said Radisson has 45 days to make restitution to the affected workers.
