To celebrate what it’s calling “Cat-ober,” the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA is waving adoption fees for all cats older than six months from its shelter in Burlingame.

The free adoptions will last until the end of October and are designed to help ease the large feline population at the shelter, PHS/SPCA officials said Wednesday.

“Cats are simply wonderful, and we have more than 68 cats available for adoption,” said PHS/SPCA spokesperson Buffy Martin Tarbox.

People who want to adopt a cat from the PHS/SPCA Tom and Annette Lantos Center for Compassion at 1450 Rollins Road in Burlingame can do so between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. seven days a week.

The shelter is open until 6 p.m. but people are asked to arrive at least an hour before closing time to complete an adoption.

People who want to adopt cats younger than six months can do so by filling out the proper forms and paying a $120 adoption fee.
