Community Medical Centers and Tracy Unified School District have opened a new behavioral health center to provide counseling services to students.
CMC is a nonprofit that provides medical, dental and behavioral health care to more than 100,000 patients throughout San Joaquin, Solano and Yolo counties.
The Tracy Unified School District Student Wellness Center is located at 164 W. Grant Line Road and is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1-5 p.m.
Face-to-face sessions will be offered at the center as well as virtual sessions, and students are able to self-refer for appointments.
“We’re proud to build on our strong partnership with Tracy Unified School District by opening this behavioral health center for students,” Michelle Coble, CMC’s associate director of behavioral health, said in a statement. “We look forward to providing behavioral health services to youth and families served by Tracy Unified and plan to expand our services over time.”
The center opened last Wednesday was funded through a grant from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration, whose goal is to provide early identification and intervention for students needing behavioral health care services.
CMC officials said the program is an extension of existing health services they started providing during the 2019-2020 school year.
They opened two more sites the following year and nine sites were operating in 2022-2023 that still remain open.
“Young people today face tremendous challenges in their lives … We strongly believe that receiving this care at a young age will help students cope better and set them up for success in school and beyond.” Christine Noguera, CMC chief executive officer
CMC said having services available for students is an especially important resource for low-income students who make up approximately 60 percent of TUSD’s population.
“Young people today face tremendous challenges in their lives,” CMC chief executive officer Christine Noguera said in a press release. “We strongly believe that receiving this care at a young age will help students cope better and set them up for success in school and beyond.”
