The apparent mother of a woman shot at and killed in Albany last week in an act of domestic violence has started a GoFundMe page for her grandson, who she said was left without parents.
Police began getting calls about a shooting at 11:14 a.m. Thursday from people inside Toyota of Berkeley Service Center, located at 1025 Eastshore Highway in Albany.
A man entered the service center and shot and killed a woman who worked there, police said.
Berkeley police evacuated the building and found the shooter on the second floor. An exchange of gunfire left the suspect dead.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Office had not released the names of the victim or the shooter as of Monday afternoon. But a woman named Yuvonda Gallon — who said she was the mother of the woman who was killed, Alonna Gallon — started a GoFundMe page for her grandson, who lost both his parents in the shootings.
“Alonna was a 24-year-old young woman who was … an incredibly kind, caring, shy, and goofy young lady who had a lot of love to give and more life to live.” GoFundMe page
She said her daughter was killed by her child’s father after making a conscious decision to distance herself from him “due to his reckless behaviors.”
“This tragedy leaves behind a child who will need not only the support of his close family, but of the community around him,” the GoFundMe page says.
“Alonna was a 24-year-old young woman who was the light of not only her friends and families lives but of her young son … Alonna was an incredibly kind, caring, shy, and goofy young lady who had a lot of love to give and more life to live.”
The page says Gallon always put her son’s needs ahead of her own “and dreamed of a life where she’d send her son off to college and support him through his transitioning stages of life.”
Gallon wrote the account will help to support her grandson to accomplish his dreams and to “help him financially navigate through the life he wants to create of his own. Your support and donations will contribute to college expenses, therapy sessions, and extended enrichment programs such as football and basketball. Any donation big or small is greatly appreciated.”
The page had raised more than $31,000 as of noon Tuesday.
