The Salinas City Council is scheduled to vote Tuesday on a resolution “condemning and denouncing” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ahead of a fundraising visit by the Republican presidential candidate.
DeSantis is scheduled to participate in a roundtable brunch in Salinas on Thursday to raise campaign funds, according to the resolution.
The resolution is proposed by two of the seven members of the council, Anthony Rocha and Andrew Sandoval.
It accuses DeSantis of mistreating undocumented immigrants, attacking the LGBTQIA+ community, dehumanizing racial minorities and promoting revisionist history that ignores racial oppression.
The resolution was added to the council meeting in a revised agenda Friday afternoon. The Sept. 26 council meeting begins at 4 p.m. in the rotunda at City Hall, 200 Lincoln Ave. More information about the agenda and how to participate can be found on the city’s website.
