A PROGRAM THAT HELPS Monterey County residents cover some funeral expenses related to a death from COVID-19 is ending at the end of September.
The Monterey County Funeral and Burial Assistance Program is available to county residents that have had a family member die from COVID-19, regardless of citizenship status, including those who are undocumented.
The death must have occurred in Monterey County any time after Jan. 20, 2020.
The funeral assistance program is for low-income county residents making $67,450 or less annually for a single person, or $96,350 for a family of four. The program is not available to residents who are eligible for a similar program from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Minors can also apply if they have incurred expenses directly.
The application is available by calling (831) 356-3137 Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The program will end Oct. 1.
FEMA’s COVID-19 funeral assistance program will be available through September 2025.
