A cat advocacy group has filed a lawsuit against the East Bay Regional Park District for a controversial policy allowing feral and abandoned cats to be killed or relocated in order to help protect endangered animal species at the district’s parks.

Alley Cat Allies, which advocates for the protection of cats and kittens, filed suit July 21 in Alameda County Superior Court, arguing that the district’s policy is inhumane and fails to comply with the California Environmental Quality Act by changing the physical environment without a full review of the consequences.
