The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA is encouraging people to adopt rabbits with its “Hoppy Summer” promotion that includes waived adoption fees for the animals through the month of June.

The PHS/SPCA has 21 rabbits available for adoption at its shelter on Rollins Road in Burlingame that is open from noon to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and noon to 5 p.m. on weekends.

People can call 650-340-7022 to schedule an appointment or come at least an hour before closing time to complete an adoption of an animal.

Rabbits should be kept indoors and with certain conditions, but most are litter box-trained and are quiet animals that can be ideal for people living in smaller spaces, PHS/SPCA officials said.

People can see the rabbits and other available animals at the shelter on the PHS/SPCA website.
