Former longtime Concord City Councilman and Mayor Dan Helix is being remembered by local elected officials following his death Wednesday at the age of 91.

U.S. Rep. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Walnut Creek, himself a former Concord councilman, noted that Helix was first elected to the Concord City Council in 1968 and served for eight years before also serving on the BART Board of Directors. He returned to the City Council as an appointee in 2010 and won election again in 2012.
