Author sees erosion of voting rights as threat to California’s future

Voting rights are under attack in the U.S. and California’s representation at the federal level is at risk despite the state’s significant voter outreach efforts, warns Ari Berman, the author of a book on voting rights who spoke in Oakland this weekend.

Berman’s lecture at the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Center touched on new efforts at voter suppression, gerrymandering and the 2020 census.
