Katherine Ann Rowlands
Katherine Ann Rowlands has worked as a journalist for 30 years, covering news in the Bay Area, Central California and overseas. As a 2017 JSK Journalism Fellow at Stanford University, she focused her research on how to overcome gender disparities in newsrooms, especially in leadership positions, and how to bolster local news coverage in the Bay Area. Craig Lazzeretti is a lifelong resident of the Bay Area, where he has also spent his journalism career. He was a longtime daily newspaper editor with Bay Area News Group and was part of the organization’s Pulitzer Prize-winning team for its coverage of the 2016 Ghost Ship warehouse fire.
Dan McMenamin has worked for Bay City News Service since 2008 and has been managing editor since 2014 after previously serving as BCN’s San Francisco bureau reporter. A UC Davis graduate, he came to BCN after working for a newspaper and nonprofit in the Davis area.
Kathleen Kirkwood is a journalist with three decades of reporting and editing experience in the Bay Area. Kiley Russell is a Bay Area native and has lived most of his life in Oakland. He studied journalism at San Francisco State University, worked for the Associated Press and the former Contra Costa Times, among other outlets. Julia Cheever, usually called Julie, has been a legal affairs reporter for Bay City News Service since 1981. She covers federal trial courts in San Francisco, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the California Supreme Court and the state Court of Appeal.
A graduate from San Francisco’s State University, Daniel Montes has written for broadcast news at stations like KPIX in San Francisco and KTXL in Sacramento in the past and has also worked as a freelance reporter.
